Grace in a nutshell: I appreciate the results, but really enjoy the process. I like having a car that will go fast even though I rarely go fast. I believe in rules, but understand I have a rebellious streak and the rules have to be broken at times. Volunteering takes up a lot of my spare and not-so-spare time, but it’s always worth it. I know my world is optimal when my life is balanced. I also know that architecture needs balance. Balance between old and new, modern and traditional, Client and Architect. After receiving my Bachelor of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin (’87), I started my career in San Diego. Before arriving in Sonoma in 1996, I returned to Texas and spent almost six years in Houston. My experience includes all phases of architecture: planning, design and construction administration. During the construction phase of a $20,000,000 project, I found it helpful to have grown up with a Dad in Construction so I understood the Contractor’s point of view. I’ve worked on many different types of buildings, from room additions for a single family home to an Emergency Service Building for the State of California. They all have one thing in common and that’s the process. Starting with ideas and turning them into a built structure is exciting, no matter the size of the project.
